On behalf of our nursing and medical staff at the Clinic for General, Visceral and Endocrine Surgery, I would like to welcome you to our website.
At the Städtische Kliniken Mönchengladbach, the surgical division looks back on a long tradition that spans more than 150 years in the region of Mönchengladbach/Rheydt. Healthcare services were first offered in the mid 19th century at the “Krankenhaus für Gesellen,” along with internal medicine and a paediatric clinic. The “Elisabeth-Krankenhaus Rheydt” began its operations with around 500 beds in 1967. At the time, it was one of the most costly and modern clinic facilities in Germany. Now, the Städtische Kliniken Mönchengladbach have evolved into a focal hospital with close to 600 beds.
The Clinic for General, Visceral and Endocrine Surgery is an integral component of the surgical centre and first and foremost tasked with providing standard services to the region. For this purpose, it offers an interdisciplinary emergency care unit that operates around the clock and is staffed with expert physicians for general and visceral surgery. Inpatient services are provided in regular and elective services stations. There is also a bed station for perioperative short term care. Critically ill patients receive treatment in our interdisciplinary intensive care unit.
As a department providing elevated focal healthcare, we offer all treatment and surgery procedures that are part of visceral surgery. Our emphasis is on the treatment of malignant diseases of the abdomen, minimally invasive (“keyhole”) surgery and endocrine surgery on the highest possible medical level. Since 2018, we as the first visceral surgery centre on the Lower Rhine have at our disposal a solution called the da Vinci System. It is a milestone in the further development of minimally invasive surgery with the objective to forego larger cuts into the skin especially on colon cancer, diaphragm and abdominal wall hernia patients. Conventional surgeries have become the exception.
